Retropolis and ColeMarie Soleil

ColeMarie Soleil IM'd with a recommendaton to explore a sim called "Retropolis"

Retropolis was fun and enjoyable but quite difficult to navigate (deliberately so, it should be said). It has quite a few hidden surprises and a very tricky maze!

ColeMaria (CoMa) is both a prolific machinima maker and a noted singer/musician. In both these disciplines she has forged herself a distinctive and recognisible style.

I first met her at Bryn Oh's exhibit for Burning Life 2010 where we chatted briefly. We met again recently at Rob Danton's screening of 'Me and My Avatar' .

CoMa's work and YouTube channel are always worth checking out; her individuality, creativity and uniqueness are inspirational.

Jiersen Splashes Rain

The ubiquitous and talented Jinx Jiersen consolidates his position as Second Life's premier porn star photographer by releasing these exclusive photographs of controversial celebrity film director, Pixie Rain.
In other news, it has been widely reported that Rain has recently taken to speaking of herself in the third-person so that she can use words like "controversial" and "celebrity" to describe herself without appearing to be egotistical or pretentious.

Mad Ninjaz - Beautiful and Unusual

I am attracted to things, people and places that are both beautiful and unusual.

Kate Bush is my favorite artist and Mad Ninjaz is my favorite SL sim.

'Showdown' was partly filmed at Mad Ninjaz.

These snapshots do not do justice to Mad Ninjaz and so I encourage you to go visit!

Clowning Around @ Sopor Aeternum

'The Kiss' contains a lot of scenes which are almost wholly created by software. This is fun to do but very time consuming.

Essentially, however, I prefer the rugged nakedness of actual camera work; the exploring for a location, the logistics of setting up, checking lighting, hauling equipment etc.

In SL, I love exploring and finding new places. This is how I often find film locations...by recommendation or by accident.

Yesterday, tutsy tp'd me to a sim called "Sopor Aeternum". It really is worth a visit!

Expect to see this sim featured in a Pixie Rain Production any time soon....

Rob Danton's "Me And My Avatar" - RL/SL Presentation

I first met Rob Danton at Old Lars. It turns out I was reading his web site while he was watching Sex With Strangers.

Rob is the director of the well-known film "Me and My Avatar". This film has been accorded many accolades as well as having been broadcast on Europeon RL television and at US film festivals.

It has been nominated for best documentary at film festivals in Lübeck, Germany, and Krakow, Poland, and selected to festivals in Amsterdam, Cleveland, Ireland, Spain and Denmark. Also, it has been televised at ZDF and ARTE a.o.

Tonight there is a simulataneous RL/SL presentation of the film; 4 SL sims and 12 RL cinemas will be participating.

tutsy & I have been invited to watch at the theater on the "VIP Sim", no less! (quote-unquote).

Am looking forward to it. To celebrate, here is a snapshot of tutsy & I wearing scissors on our head and ill-fitting shoes:

Where's My Kiss?

We were scheduled to release 'The Kiss' today and actually could of if we had wanted to.

I worked finalising it until 2am and the set the alarm for 6am to do two hours more before college. Uploaded it during morning lectures.

Jinx & I watched in 720HD and felt happy and proud.

Almost simultaneously, we realised that, as good as it is, we can make it even better. And so we are putting the release date back until next week to film an additional scene.

Version 1 is available to watch, if anyone was particularly interested; we are just not making it public. Just IM me in-world for the link.

I am not much into "teasers" (so-called), feeling that rather than teasing they in fact generate sighs, rolled-eyes and boredom.

This pic is emphatically not a teaser. Really. But it is a screen dump of a scene in Version 1.

'Showdown' and 'The Kiss' - Background

Showdown was created based on this college assignment :

Assignment 3rd term Year 1 (optional):

Consider the following passage and in a digital medium of your choice demonstrate what it means to you:

"In order to transform a work into a cult (or art house) film one must be able to break, dislocate and unhinge it so that one can remember only parts of it, irrespective of their original relationship with the whole. [Such a film] survives only as a disconnected series of images, of peaks, of visual icebergs. It should display not one central idea but many. It should not reveal a coherent philosophy of composition. It must live on, and because of, its glorious ricketiness."

- Umberto Eco in 'Faith in Fakes: Travels in HyperReality'

Tommorrow I release 'The Kiss'. The original screen play was proposed to me by Jinx Jiersen, winner of Best Male in the 2010 THE SEXIEST competition. I don't usually take on ideas proposed by others simply because I have enough ideas of my own. But I like Jinx as a person and thought it would be fun doing a film together. It was.

Tommorrow we will see the result of our collaboration.

In the meantime,  here is a pic of him:

Scraps from the Cutting Room Floor

I am hopeful of getting 'The Kiss' released this coming weekend. I have a bit more footage to film in SL but the hard work is now all completed.

This is a screen shot of a sequence which was taken to completion but failed to make the final cut:

MachinimUWA III

Peter Greenaway, a noted English filmmaker, is on the judging panel for the MachinimUWA III contest. I loved his 'The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover '.

I have met and talked with a number of the other judges before but not Greenaway. I'll go and watch the prize presentations because Greenaway will be doing a lecture and his last one in SL was really interesting.

I have seen a number of the entries and many are very good; some are superb.

In my own case, I do not feel ready yet to enter such a competition. Next year, maybe.

My friend, Tutsy Navarathna, with whom I have quite biased and partisan relationship (and which may or may not become more clear as this blog evolves) entered this:

Orwell RIP - Insurance Fraud

Orwell Rain RIP - No one had a good word to say about him

Whereas Vellhi is always happy and Simon is pleasantly pervy, Orwell is a nasty piece of work...

Here he is feigning his own death for attention, for sympathy and for the insurance money.

Rabbit Girl Porn Star

New profile picture.

Taken with Kirstens S21, I think it demostrates the Depth of Field feature quite well.

I have three Ozimal rabbits: Simon (132 days old), Vellhi (130) and Orwell (128). They each have their own personality.

Showdown

I heard the song 'Showdown' by Electric Light Orchestra on YouTube in September or October 2010 and knew immediately I wanted to do something with it.

In my mind's eye, I saw a black-haired beautiful lady in one of the lead roles. The lady originally scheduled to take the role mysteriously dropped off my SL Friends List around December time.

Paddledog Oh is a regular at Old Lar's House, and a beautiful and interesting avatar so I asked her. Paddle was originally a little skeptical but watched some of my films. Far from convincing her that this was a good thing to do, it made her even more wary. Apparently 'Blockbuster' and 'PsychoKiller' were not to Paddle's liking at all.

After some discussion and schedule re-arranging we started filming mid-January 2011 and released on 12 March.

Keyhole Club, Orburs (173, 174, 59)

Barry Lubezki, owner of the well-known 'Keyhole Club' in Second Life™ told me yesterday that the cinema at his club would be exclusively screen 'Pixie Rain Productions' for the immediate future.

This came about by a combination of good fortune and merit, in about equal measure. Perhaps the 'good fortune' takes it by a nose, I don't know.

I am chuffed to bits about it, anyway.

The first place I saw an adult themed machinima was at Keyhole. I sat watching every film on the menu and thought to myself, "One day I will have films playing here".

It has taken around one year (almost exactly, in fact), and has now occurred.

Apparently Barry will organise a party to celebrate and we'll tie that in with the premiere of my next film, The Kiss, in the next 10 days or so.

Runaway

'Runaway' was commissioned by Fuckpig Films and Gutterslut Casting, both at that time still under the ownership of Lar Jun and now exclusive owner of 'Lar's House'

It is a very simple film, as I struggled to learn the Second Life viewer capabilities.

Not In Love (HD Test)

Released in March 2010, three weeks after Pixie's original rez date, 'Not In Love (HD Test)' was intended only to test YouTube's 720p HD settings.

It is only 22 seconds long and comes after a few chats with Lar Jun owner of 'Lar's House', then owner of 'Fuckpig Films'.

It is kinda fun.
