'Fwd: Evolution' Review by Serenity Juneberry

A movie review of ‘Fwd: Evolution by Serenity Juneberry which originally appeared on ‘The Pornstars’ blog. Reproduced in whole here. I wish to thank Serenity for this generous piece.

Adult Scene Director's MachinimUWA V Entry
'Fwd: Evolution' by Pixie Rain
"A Cybernetic Shaman and Cybernetic Dancer
travel through space, time and the inner dimensions in search of wisdom..."
This is a non-adult film.
However, we've always supported our adult directors here at 'The Pornstars' when entering the UWA Machinima contest. Last time around Bert Jedburgh, Pel Beaton and Scooby Mode all submitted entries and were covered here on the blog.
This time we have Pixie Rain, who is of course one of the most talented movie makers to work in the adult genre, doing what she does best with her usual class and artistic style.
'Fwd: Evolution' is a superb movie, superbly titled too as it aptly describes the journey you'll embark on when you watch this film.
Some wonderful imagery and some thoughtful content mean I enjoyed watching several times for very different reasons. You should listen, watch and absorb the movie in order to get the full effect and the Director's message.
Also on later viewings you can, as I described to Pixie yesterday when we spoke "take a magic carpet ride" and just let the scenes and images flow past you. I think probably John Lennon put it best "Switch off your mind, relax and float down stream".
The film does indeed take you on a journey and it feels like a literal one as Pixie's editing and filming techniques really take you on a flight through the movie's entire length - always going forward, always evolving.
Look out for the Cybernetic Shamen, who can be seen throughout, white rabbit like!
We wish Pixie all the best for the UWA Awards.

Machinima of this stature from artists involved in the adult scene can only help gain respect for some of the wonderfully produced adult content which gets released by others too. Much of which fully deserves praise by a wider machinima loving audience.

'Rapture' Movie Review By Serenity Juneberry

A movie review of ‘Rapture’ by Serenity Juneberry which originally appeared on ‘The Pornstars’ blog. Reproduced in whole here. I wish to thank Serenity for this generous piece.
‘Rapture’
By Pixie Rain
It almost seems unfair to review this movie after my initial two viewings and then again for my screen shots for this piece.
Because there is so much going on, so much to appreciate admire and enjoy on so many levels. I feel you cannot fully take in the whole experience unless you view it many times.
It's a tribute to Pixie that she has earned the right to have a new release anticipated and looked forward to so much. I have been checking her blog and waiting for this, waiting eagerly, then doing a final big "Oooooh! Yes!" when I spotted it at Kittyshack today.
The video ranges from cinematic trailer-like and very cool at it's opening thanks to some ‘Blade Runner’ like camera flights through a quite stunning glowing futuristic cityscape (look for locations in the credits)  and the very fitting, stirring voice-acting selections.
Through to a cool music video and on to some of Pixie's most graphic sexual content so far. All balanced with her usual artistic flare and vision. This has it all, enough to keep anybody transfixed for the duration and then hitting the play button again and again.
It's technically amazing. I absolutely loved the projector screen scenes.
Pixie has the prowess to pull off the technical side due to hard work, study, planning and just plain effort and will to bring us perfection.
It's very easy to sit back and be stifled and never bring your visions to the screen. Pixie throws off all the chains due to this hard work and thankfully letting us see what's going on in her minds eye.
All this and one of my favourite bands "The Specials" on the sound track!
Congrats to all the cast - you are extremely privileged to be part of this.
And huge congratulations to Pixie.
Serenity Juneberry xx.

'The Kiss' Movie Review by Serenity Juneberry

A review of ‘The Kiss’ by Serenity Juneberry which originally appeared on ‘The Pornstars’ blog. Reproduced in whole here. I wish to thank Serenity for this generous piece.

‘The Kiss
By Pixie Rain
There are a lot of opinions on just what or who is great, what should be happening or how things should be on the porn scene right now.
One uniting fact is everybody loves Pixie Rain!!!
One person’s art can differ from another. We all have the right to appreciate different movies but most of us can appreciate something quite special when it's put in front of us.
In the case of Pixie, most of us find ourselves completely absorbed by the amazing and highly imaginative imagery she captures.
It's quite ironic that somebody who does not even have both feet planted firmly in traditional porn has united so many on the scene and commands so much respect. Pixie gives us erotic artistic video, sometimes very hot, sometimes subtle, but always fitting and right.
A comment or compliment from Pixie on a movie I've produced it means so much - as I'm sure it does for others. I feel that sums up the esteem which she's regarded among fellow movie makers.
This is why it's very dangerous to bracket how things should be. If you have a talent to do what could be termed "emoting through video" to make the viewer really feel what's going on in front of them, no amount of dialogue or traditional story telling can top it.
I've watched almost hypnotized at times because all the elements blend and work so well. Nothing leaps out as wrong and breaks the spell even for a moment.
Pixie not only has the artistic eye needed to deliver us these special projects, she also has a huge amount of technical expertise which ensures her work looks pristine and high quality. As well as giving her an extra dimension through visual effects to further the experience and polish of her finished productions.
Anybody feeling they have gone as far as they can go in-world with capturing video and editing it should look at directors such as Pixie and see what other levels their work could be taken to by a visual effects or a post production phase.
If you can begin to master it like Pixie, you'll find it starts to shape your in world shoots, giving you total freedom to express yourself.
Blending art and technical skills can mean nothing is impossible.
There really is no limit to what we can achieve and capture filming in a virtual world. Imagination, amazing software available to all and new viewer enhancements are there for us all to use and explore.
Thankfully, Pixie embraces all this and always brightens up my screen.

METASEX : MAKES A BIG BANG IN THE METAVERSE

A movie review of ‘MetaSex’ by Serenity Juneberry which originally appeared on ‘The Pornstars’ blog, reproduced in whole here.
Tutsy & I wish to thank Serenity for this thoughtful piece.

‘MetaSex

When I heard Tutsy Navarathna was crossing over to the World of Adult Machinima, I was extremely excited. An award winning mainstream machinima producer, who excels in that genre, producing a sex movie is a mouth-watering prospect!
I believe mainstream machinima artists flourish and become simply the best because when you actually analyze the content of our adult movies we are looking at anything between 70%-99% sexual imagery. There is no shame in that, we're making porn. My point is however, if you remove up to 99% of your movie content, what do you replace it with? How do you keep your viewers interested, amazed, dazzled, and excited? That is the training ground of an artist like Tutsy - who is now bringing that art, style, skill, imagination and sheer creativity to bear on a adult movie project.
Thanks to Pixie Rain, a prominent star of this film, and Tutsy himself I was sent a advance copy of this movie in glorious 1080p HD video. I have to say it was a truly amazing experience to watch.
I think it was after viewing number 4 that I felt I could pick my jaw up and be in a position sit down and write something to outline just how special it is.
“MetaSex” is, it turns out, as a perfect title as the movie itself.
MetaSex’ is a journey through every facet of fetish, sexual kink, turn on and sexual activity happening right now in Second Life.
Ironically this movie is so very Second Life and yet the production lifts the content far outside our regular views of our in-world experiences.
It uses some of the most impressive post production techniques I've ever seen. When somebody with this skill set has the attitude that Second Life is a tool where the sky is the limit visually, you are going to be in for a special and amazing journey as a viewer.
As you watch ‘MetaSex’, you are bombarded with spectacular imagery, relentlessly and uniquely pieced together, taking in a whole Metaverse of sexual pastimes.
You start to become aware how huge this project is as scenes within scenes unfold, hundreds of examples of carefully shot and created content is sent your way in a collage of video and stills blended, layered and collated together to give you almost a sense of riding through a gallery of video exhibits on a roller coaster which thoughtfully slows down long enough to let you enjoy, before moving on to the next eye-opening work of art.
One of the most powerful aspects of ‘MetaSex’ is the realisation that many of the scenario's fetishes and pastimes, even the outfits and fetish attachments, look very familiar to us all.
For many of us this is a stark contrast to "Real Life". In doing so ‘MetaSex’ can leave you contemplating the shortfall between your sexually liberated, confident, and exotic Second Life and your maybe more mundane Real Life!
If you've ever shot a movie in Second Life which required any type of post production you will have a special appreciation and admiration of this project. If you are a regular viewer then you are still going to come away knowing you seen something very special. Although, as with me, I expect it'll be about viewing number 4 or 5 before you start to just take in what you've seen.
It is a masterpiece!
I for one am honoured Tutsy has made this crossover into our genre of machinima. I hope it can inspire.
MetaSex’ was made by a highly skilled and experienced producer. The most special thing about it though is the imagination and the realisation of the producer of what a playground we have to film in, and what can unravel and how it can inspire you when you use it and start to think of it in such a way.
Outside the box there are works of art and some hugely enjoyable projects waiting to be made and pieced together. Not just by accomplished artists like Tutsy but by all of us, no matter where we sit on the learning curve in Machinima.

Jinx and Pixie Rule Britannia

I like people with their own beauty
-         David Bailey CBE (English photographer), 1999

All photographs and interview by Jinx Jiersen. This article was originally published on Emmanuelle Jameson’s ‘The Pornstars’ blog.

Jinx Jiersen: What is your favourite position and why?

Pixie Rain: Doggy position.
I like its animistic and primitive nature. Not being able to look each other "in the eye" creates a feeling of anonymity and disconnection; it is "fucking" rather than "making love".
That is a sexy feeling for me.

JJ: What is your least favourite position and why?

PR: 69’er.
Works perfectly in my imagination but in practice something always seems to go wrong, often with very messy results.
Perhaps I just need more practice.

JJ: What turns you on?

PR: Intelligent humour.

JJ: What turns you off?

PR: Mullet haircuts.

JJ: What sound do you love?

PR: I love the sound of breaking glass.

JJ: What sound do you hate?

PR: The click, whirl and bleep as an ATM cash machine retains my credit card for abusing my limit. Again.

JJ: What is your favourite curse word?

PR: "Bugger".
“Bugger" is a great word because depending on tone of voice and context it can mean either:
1) anal sex by a man with another man or a woman.
2) vaginal intercourse by either a man or woman with an animal.
3) a mild exclamation after an accident or mishap.
4) a term of endearment and affection for a loved one.
The Buggery Act of 1533 remains my favourite legislation of all-time.

JJ: What was your favourite role?

PR: Would it be too corny and predictable to say 'The Kiss' with Jinx Jiersen?
Yeah, I thought so too.
In that case, with Paddledog Oh in 'Showdown'.

JJ: What is your favourite movie?

PR: Difficult one.
Serenity Juneberry has built-up an enviable body of work.
Thorgal McGillivary's 'Dick Tasty' series is fabulously well produced.
Bert Jedburgh's movies will always make me immediately stop whatever I am doing to watch. 'Meow' was definitely one of my personal favourite films of 2011.
But, if I had to go out on a limb to name just one, it would be 'Disturbia' by Aurora Bentham.

JJ: How did you get started in the Adult Movie Industry?

PR: I started making edgy-sexual movies in Second Life in March 2010, soon after I started an account.
I had no idea at that time that SL had a thriving adult machinima community.
After three "inappropriate content" warnings from YouTube I searched for alternative places to post my films. I found NaughtyMachinima and posted them there instead.
My films were noticed by a number of popular bloggers including Emmanuelle, Serenity and Rayven - all of whom have been wonderfully supportive, along with others who have become close friends.

JJ: If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

PR: "I've extended your credit limit for Eternity.”

Ruminating on the PixelX Polls

ru·mi·nate/ˈro͞oməˌnāt/

to ruminate:
1. to chew the cud like a ruminant (example: sheep and goats)

to chew the cud:
1. to chat in an aimless way. Cud is the part-digested food that ruminant animals bring back into their mouths from their stomach to chew at leisure. The image is a slow and meaningless mastication.
Pixie Panda
On her notorious, controversial, sometimes cruel and frequently funny blog, Rayven Baily made some interesting remarks about a much publicised Second Life (SL) porn-industry poll.
Tulsi Clown
The poll in question is hosted at the PixelX magazine blog and is run, at least in part it seems, by the infamous Jumpman Lane.

The winners of each of the categories get awarded real life dollar prizes (rather than Linden Space Bux).

From a drop down list, you can select who you feel should win in a particular category and your vote is counted.

So far, so good.

Except that anyone can cast multiple votes in any category, separated by a 24hour interval. Moreover, voting is open for another six weeks!

A recipe for....well, not "disaster" exactly but certainly "inferior quality".

I remember reading a notecard about this competition and, on seeing how the winners would be judged, deciding to keep at arms length from it. In fairness, however, I am not one for entering contests and I wouldn't have given the matter very much thought before concluding "not for me, thank you".
Rayven goes on to describe some rather strange voting patterns which on the face of it sound absurd.

Now, before we go on, it should be said that Rayven has an agenda of her own here which will be readily obvious to her regular readers - and which Rayven herself makes no attempt to disguise or hide, bless her cotton socks!

I am not particularly interested in Rayven's not-so-hidden agenda to be honest, except perhaps in the morbid sense of rubbernecking a train wreck.
But I *am* interested in the how the chosen election process for this contest has the potential to lead to seemingly weird and outlandish results.

And the way Rayven described it, the results were so bizarre, so ridiculous, so....so unbelievable that Rayven just *had* to be exaggerating. Right?

Right?

I had go to look for myself.
This type of voting mechanism has prior form and is widely employed in such TV programmes as X Factor, Big Brother and many many others.

By allowing multiple voting, someone can feel they are really getting behind and supporting the performer they want to win. The production company get a small income from every vote. Its all good. Its all fun.

In these types of TV programmes, each broadcast episode could expect to generate tens or hundreds of thousands of votes. Some can generate millions.

The number of individual votes and voters involved is so vast that it would be near impossible to viably influence the result using various social networking or crowd sourcing techniques or indeed other forms of voting irregularities. It has been attempted, of course.

However, when such a voting regime is employed in that considerably smaller pool of resources that is Second Life, it becomes entirely possibly to influence the final result, given enough motivation.
When you look at the interim results that this contest has spewed out thus far, it is hard to escape the conclusion that some form of manipulation is occurring of the nature that Rayven describes. In fact, Rayven's reporting on the voting patterns appears to be disturbingly accurate.

This contest certainly has lost all credibility, imo, and I am glad I decided not to enter. It isn't something I think I would really want on my curriculum vitae!

Now, the fact is, this contest - or any other for that matter - has no obligation to be credible! It just isn't a requirement of competitions!

And if winning a contest that has no benefits in terms of personal credibility, respect or self-dignity is meaningful to you - then go for it, I say! Spam all your friends, drag out your alts and get the buggers to vote for you every 24 hours!

And if it isn't the "personal credibility, respect or self-dignity" that is motivating you but instead you are seeing dollar signs in front of your eyes - then, again, go for it! Spam and alt-vote to your heart's content!
While there I voted in each of the categories. I voted as I felt was right and true for me.

In some cases, that meant I didn't vote for someone on my friend's list. Sorry. But there is a simple matter of personal integrity at stake here.

I will not be returning to cast any further votes; I am done there. Nor will I be keeping abreast of developments

For anyone interested, here is who I voted for, and the reasons why.

Pornographer of the Year: Of the sixteen possible candidates, only two could I personally realistically consider -  Emanuelle Jameson or Serenity Juneberry.

Emanuelle's generous and enthusiastic coverage of other people's work on her extremely popular blog allows us to see work which would unlikely ever otherwise come our way. She doesn't have to do this but she does, in a most unselfish and encouraging way. Emanuelle is a great community leader.

Serenity has not only built up an enviable body of high quality work, she is also generous and unselfish as a person. As well as working on her own blogs (count 'um!) she is a regular contributor on Emanuelle's. You see her commenting on many films; she is widely liked and her opinions are highly respected.

It was a hard decision but, finally, I plumbed for Serenity because she has been the more active of the two in outputting new creations in the last year.
Porn Newcomer of the Year: I found this quite a lot easier than some of the other categories. I voted for Collen Criss

I am really enjoying the photography on Collen and Toran's blog. I like their style and the care they evidently put into their work.

Really good stuff.

Female Model of the Year: A tough category, especially as SL now provides so many attractive looking "off-the-shelf" and "generic" avatars.

What I personally find attractive and what I look for in the actors I cast in my films, is an individual "created" look. If I sense a "generic" or "off-the-shelf" look - even if it is attractive or beautiful as many of the "CherryGirl" and "Dr Life" avatars clearly are - I am less likely to be enthusiastic in offering a part.

Sexy and beautiful are "must haves" obviously, that's a given. But the avatar must also be capable of retaining that sexiness and beauty under different Windlight settings, different outfits and different hair etc. I am particularly interested in eyes, lips and facial shape.  I especially check that there is no shadowing around the nose and cheeks.

From a starting field of seventeen, under the above criteria, the numbers quickly get shaved to a more manageable amount.

I finally voted for Arwen Juneberry.
Male Model of the Year: Many of you know I hang out at Old Lars House. The thing is, you see, in my personal life I have a penchant for polite, mature gentleman.

The young stereotypical SL "male hunk" just don't do it for me.

So, there was really only one choice....Philip Sidek

Photographer of the Year: The single hardest category imo. So many good photographers are in amongst the twenty-three candidates.

I eventually ruled it down to Jeanne Sahara, Jinx Jiersen, Philip Sidek and my eventual choice....Debra Stine.

Female Machinima Performer of the Year: I could happily cast my vote to Quinn Ying, Serenity, Arwen but after a lot of deliberation finally decided on Aurora Bentham.

The reason is because Aurora created the one adult machinima that I have watched over and over again this year - Disturbia. I loved that film but unfortunately it isn't on NaughtyMachima any more.
Male Machinima Performer of the Year: I haven't voted yet. I am waiting for Philip Sidek to be added to the list for this momentous performance.

Machinima Director of the Year: I voted for Vanhelsing Svoboda because,  with the possible exception of Quinn's, I like his films more than the others listed,  .

However, after some reflection I wish I had not cast a vote at all.

The list does not include Serenity Juneberry (or Rysan Fall for that matter) and is therefore inherently flawed and incomplete.
Pixie
xx

IMPORTANT EDIT:

Since publishing the above there have been two major developments significant enough to justify an edit:

1) The polls have been changed to only permit one vote per IP address. This is much more sensible under the circumstances but likely too late to repair the damage already inflicted on the contest's reputation.

2) Arwen and Serenity have withdrawn from the competition entirely. See their formal announcement here. At the moment of their announcement, Serenity was leading in two categories ('Female Model of the Year' and 'Female Machinima Performer of the Year'). My feeling is that if the organisers had not removed her name from the 'Machinima Director of the Year' category (whether deliberately or accidently is far from clear) then she would be heading that category too.

Arwen and Serenity really are a class act, both on and off the stage.

Their withdrawal from the contest effectively renders any result from this contest worthless.

Now I really want to leave this whole sordid matter behind and recommend we all do something more pleasant and light hearted - like dressing up in tiny avatars and re-enacting the electro-convulsive therapy scene from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!

Bagsy I be Jack Nicholson! Serenity and Arwen can fight over who will be Nurse Ratched!

The pictures used on this blog-post were taken by Tutsy and I in our tiny avatars at Madcow Cosmos and Lorin Tone's fun and funny 'Through the Lens of Dreams' region.
